Understanding that being empowered is vital for business sustainability is one thing, but viewing it as a critical component to our culture and values is another all together. Empowerment will remain a focal area for our business operations to ensure we play an active part and realise our commitment to diversity. We are committed to re-evaluating our existing BEE certification as it does not accurately reflect our current standing. Kathea will also be taking significant strides within its BEE structures to embrace Governments objectives of Broad-Based BEE (which focuses on all seven elements of the Broad-Based BEE scorecard) as opposed to narrow-based (which seem to predominantly focus only on the ownership and management control elements). With this approach in mind, Kathea is working closely with advisors and industry to ensure its BEE structures represent the majority of the seven scorecard elements. Kathea understands the critical importance for businesses to implement (or add onto existing) BEE strategies with all elements as priorities, particularly Skills development; Preferential procurement; Enterprise development and Socio-economic development. As such, Kathea will soon be launching its broad-based BEE plan that aims to the support the change required to change the many social concerns plaguing the majority of South Africans. In line with our upcoming strategic BEE plan, Kathea will endeavour to ensure a fair representation of all racial groups at all levels through the implementation of necessary recruitment philosophies, training programmes and mentoring structures – which will facilitate skills transfer and will include management development as a priority.
